President
Van Horn, Texas,
rancher Jon Means' ancestors settled in the Davis Mountains area of West
Texas in 1884. He is the fourth generation of his family to ranch in
that area. He was elected a TSCRA director in 1988; second vice
president in 2003; first vice president in 2005; and president in 2007.
Means, who resides at the Moon Ranch in Jeff Davis County, raises
commercial Angus and Angus-cross cattle. He is managing partner of Means
Ranch Co. Ltd. with operations in Culberson and Jeff Davis counties,
Texas, and owner of the
H-Y Ranch Co. in Grant County, N.M. He is also a partner in Alamo Cattle
Co.
The son of Barbara C. Means and the late Cole Cowden Means, he was
born Sept. 17, 1951, in El Paso, Texas. Means holds a BBA degree from
Texas Christian University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta
fraternity.
He serves on the board of directors of the Fort Davis State Bank,
National Finance Credit Corp. of Texas, Texas Livestock Marketing
Association and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
He is a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association and the
Private Lands Advisory Board of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.
He served for six years as a member of the board of the Texas Beef
Council and for 25 years on the board of directors of the Highpoint Soil
and Water Conservation District.
Means is a past president of the Highland Hereford Breeders'
Association and the Trans-Pecos Area Soil and Water Conservation
District. He is a member of the Bloys Camp Meeting Association and the
First Baptist Church of Van Horn.
Means and his wife, Jackie, are parents of two daughters, Mary
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Means and Sarah Anne Means, and a son, Cole Cowden
Means II.
