New weekend schedule for TSCRA convention
      Beef cattle producers will gather in Fort Worth March 18-21 to discuss, evaluate and decide how to respond to the many issues that affect their business during this era of enormous challenge and change.
      Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association’s 128th annual convention and 30th annual trade show will be held Friday through Monday at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
      “This is a departure from TSCRA’s longstanding Sunday through Wednesday schedule,” says TSCRA President Bob McCan. “We want to make it easier for working ranchers and families to participate in the meetings, educational programs, networking and entertainment events and contribute to the decision-making process.”

Issues and speakers
      Major issues and speakers on the agenda include:

·  Texas legislative update, Gov. Rick Perry;
     
·  Texas judicial update, Wallace Jefferson, chief justice, Supreme Court of Texas;
     
·  Current beef industry issues and the importance of the state/national partnership, Jim McAdams, president, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and TSCRA director;
     
·  Keynote address, Frederick D. McClure, former assistant for legislative affairs for President George H.W. Bush and special assistant for legislative affairs for President Ronald Reagan.

      TSCRA President McCan encourages non-members to come and see what TSCRA is all about. “You don’t have to be a TSCRA member to register,” he emphasizes, “but only members can vote.”
      Members will vote on policy resolutions and new officers and directors during the second general session on Monday morning. The session will also feature the association’s annual report by Executive Vice President Matt Brockman and a report on activities of CattleWomen by Texas CattleWomen President Rosemary Brizendine.

Silent auction and trade show
      The general public is also welcome to browse TSCRA’s 250-exhibit trade show and bid on a
bargain at the silent auction. Items up for bid include exclusive hunting trips, jewelry, art and boots as well farm and ranch products.
      Auction hours are from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 18, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Bids close at 5 p.m. and payment is due by 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Proceeds from the auction are used to provide training and equipment for TSCRA’s law enforcement division.
      TSCRA’s trade show has 250 booths featuring the latest in equipment and management tools, clothing, jewelry and art. It is open to the general public with purchase of a $5 day badge.

A packed schedule
      There’s much more on the schedule: School for Successful Ranching, Level II Beef Quality Assurance Program, legal seminar, TSCRA new member welcome and TSCRA PAC reception.
      Entertainment events include the Young People’s Party at the 8.0 in nearby downtown Fort Worth; spouse tour of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame; Cattleman’s Western Dinner-Dance featuring Dave Alexander and his Big Texas Swing Band with catering by Perini Ranch; TSCR Foundation Party benefiting the Cattle Raisers Museum at the River Ranch in the Fort Worth Stockyards area; and an in-character interpretation of letters home from Meriwether Lewis during the 1804-1806 Lewis-Clark expedition by historian Tim McNeil.
      From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Helen Kleberg Groves will sign copies of her new book about her parents, “Bob and Helen Kleberg of King Ranch.”

Bid on a bargain at TSCRA’s Silent Auction
      Several terrific items will be up for bid during TSCRA’s annual silent auction. This could be your chance to pick up a real bargain!
      The auction will be held in the trade show area during TSCRA’s annual convention at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Texas Legislature considers bills that affect ranchers, property owners

TSCRA trade show packed with 250 booths
      Don’t miss the biggest cattle industry trade show in the Lone Star State!
      You can talk with experts on cattle industry products and services at 250 booths at Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association’s 30th Annual Trade Show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 18-20 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
      There will also be a variety of general-interest exhibits, including Western clothing, boots, hats, jewelry, trucks, books and Western art. Lots will be going on―entertainment, refreshments, a silent auction, drawings for gifts and much more.
      Admission requires a badge received with registration to the TSCRA convention or  School for Successful Ranching. The general public is also welcome to attend with purchase of a $5 day badge.
      Hours are from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 20.

Free legal update offered March 18
      A free legal seminar will be held Friday, March 18 in conjunction with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association’s 128th annual convention Fort Worth.
      Attorneys from Jackson Walker, LLP will provide a valuable opportunity to learn about laws that affect rural landowners and agriculture operations. Application for CLE credit is pending.
      The agenda includes legal updates relating to water law; enforcing private regulation through litigation; estate planning for ranchers; risk management issues; what ranch owners need to know about oil and gas, water and wind leases; and employment issues for the cattle raiser.
