Cattle
Raisers elect new officers
FORT
WORTH, Texas, March 21, 2005―New officers were elected March 21
during the closing session of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
Association’s 128th annual convention in Fort Worth.
C. R. “Dick” Sherron, M.D., of
Beaumont, Texas, was elected president; Jon Means of Van Horn, Texas,
first vice president; and G. Dave Scott, Richmond, Texas, second vice
president and secretary.
Two longtime TSCRA directors, James L.
“Jim”
Donnell of Fowlerton, Texas, and W. R. “Bob” Watt Jr. of Fort Worth,
were elevated to honorary vice president status.
New honorary directors are Charles A.
Bird of Midland, Texas; Tommy Bozka of Shiner, Texas; Charles T. Fry of
Paris, Texas; Phil Hardee of Beatrice, Ala.; Ed Harrell of Amarillo,
Texas; William L. “Billy” Jones of Brady, Texas; Tom Risinger of
Wylie, Texas; Nolan Ryan of Round Rock, Texas; Tom B. Saunders IV of
Weatherford, Texas; Wilson Scaling of Henrietta, Texas; Raymond J.
Welder Jr. of Victoria, Texas; Gene West of Marfa, Texas; and Bob Wright
of Fort Worth.
New directors are G. Hughes Abell of
Austin, Texas; William L. “Buck” Arrington of Pampa Texas; David
Delaney of Kingsville, Texas; Benjamin Eshleman III of Corpus Christi,
Texas; Tommy Haegelin of La Pryor, Texas; Larry Horwood of Sterling
City, Texas; Tom Johnson of Wortham, Texas; Lorenzo Lasater of San
Angelo, Texas; Mary Lessor of Smiley, Texas; David L. Neal of San
Angelo, Texas; Joe J. Parker Jr. of Byers,
Texas; Leonard Singletary of Laneville, Texas; Tony Spears of Rosanky,
Texas; Cliff Teinert of Albany, Texas; and John Welch of Lubbock, Texas.
Dick Sherron is corporate medical
director for Trinity Industries of Dallas and raises commercial cattle
in Jefferson and Duval counties. He brings a wealth of knowledge on
animal health to the TSCRA leadership team.
Sherron is currently serving or has
served as a commissioner and chairman of the Texas Animal Health
Commission; on the Tuberculosis Committee of the U.S. Animal Health
Association; and on the Animal Health and Nutrition Committees of the
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association; and as a director of NCBA,
Texas Beef Council and Coastal Cattlemen’s Association.
Born in Livingston, Texas, Sherron
earned a B.S. degree from Lamar University and his M.D. from The
University of Texas. He served three years in the U.S. Army, including
one year in Vietnam, where he received the Army commendation medal and a
bronze star.
Jon Means is a fourth-generation
rancher who raises commercial Angus and Angus-cross cattle in the Davis
Mountains area of West Texas, where his ancestors settled in 1884. He is
managing partner of Means Ranch Co. in Culberson and Jeff Davis counties
in Texas, and a partner in Alamo Cattle Co. and H-Y Ranch Co. in Grant
Co. N.M.
Means is currently serving or has
served as a director of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association,
National Finance Credit Corp. of Texas, Texas Livestock Marketing
Association and the Highpoint Soil and Water Conservation District. He
is a past president of the Highland Hereford Breeders Association and
the Trans-Pecos Area Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and a past
member of the Texas Beef Council.
New to the slate of officers is Dave
Scott, who operates G.D. Scott Cattle Co. and has partnerships in Fort
Bend, Harris, Waller, Robertson and Cottle counties. In 1960 he became a
partner with his father in Scott Livestock Commission Co., which was
established in 1931 and was the first commission company on the Port
City Stockyards at Houston. He is also vice president of Port City
Stockyards Co. at Sealy, Texas.
Scott is a life member of the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo and chaired its Range Bull and Heifer Committee
for six years. He is also a life member of the Fort Bend County Fair
Association and a member of Texas Cattle Feeders Association, National
Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Brazoria County Cattlemen’s
Association.
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
Association is a 128-year-old trade organization whose 13,000 members
manage approximately 5.4 million head of cattle on 70.3 million acres of
range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
